The TAKeOFF Ghana Team met with the District Health Directors of Wenchi Municipal to provide updates on efforts to address obstacles hindering the elimination of lymphatic filariasis within the district. The meeting offered an opportunity to deliberate on the need for a “Test and Treat” approach in tackling neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). This engagement formed part of the strategic stakeholder consultations with health actors in NTDs and the dissemination of information regarding the ongoing Test and Treat Trial in Wenchi Municipal.
At the meeting, the team presented the outcomes of screening activities for lymphatic filariasis conducted between 2023 and 2025. The results recorded a circulating filarial antigen prevalence of 6.62%, indicating ongoing transmission within the Asuogya, Wenchi/Subinso, and Tromeso sub-districts. To encourage community ownership, the team intends to participate in the district’s annual performance meeting scheduled for early 2026, where updates on study progress will be shared with all stakeholders.
